Three Elements Make Special English Unique
It has a core vocabulary of 1500 words. Most are simple words that describe objects, actions or emotions. Some words are more difficult. They are used for reporting world events and describing discoveries in medicine and science.
Special English writers use short, simple sentences that contain only one idea. They use active voice. They do not use idioms.
Special English broadcasters read at a slower pace, about two-thirds the speed of standard English. This helps people learning English hear each word clearly. It also helps people who are fluent English speakers understand complex subjects.

"We founded our charity with a simple proposition; film is a powerful educational tool. Not just to keep children still or to introduce media studies topics, but to bring alive subjects that can seem very remote from today's world. A huge part of this was our belief in the value of the cinematic experience. That was in 1984.
Today, the concept of 'rich media' in learning is ubiquitous. The options for using interactive content are astounding and there is no doubt that teachers can find a resource to cover almost any subject. But what about engagement?
If the feedback we receive from teachers is anything to go by, film still stands alone. Especially with the incredible pace of technological developments in recent years, how often does anyone sit still and focus on one thing for two full hours? That's part of the magic of film. Those two hours can seem like minutes. And they stay in the mind of the audience."
Alle Filme sind im Filmarchive alphabetisch angeordnet.

"In America" ist der wohl persönlichste Film des Drehbuchautors und Regisseurs Jim Sheridan. Er erzählt die Geschichte einer illegalen Immigration nach New York: Die junge irische Familie Sullivan - Vater Johnny, Mutter Sarah und die Töchter Ariel und Christy - will mit diesem Neuanfang über den Tod des Sohnes Frankie hinwegkommen.
